The Police High Command says it has received information that criminals locked in a deadly turf war in West Kingston have placed bounty of up to a million dollars on the heads of police officers working in the area.
The police made the disclosure a short while ago and has issued a call for members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to remain on alert as the threat level for police officers remains extreme.
This means that attacks against the police are highly probable and likely to occur
Reports were that criminals aligned to major gangs operating in West Kingston have been sending online threats and offering rewards ranging from $100,000 to $1,000,000 for the death of police officers.
The criminals are making the threats on the lives of police officers who have been working to prevent gang members from invading the Denham Town and Tivoli communities.
These threats against the lives of the police are designed to reduce their effectiveness, police sources have revealed.
Police High Command is advising members especially those who live and work in the Kingston Western Division and the Corporate Area to increase their vigilance on and off duty and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.
Additionally, police personnel are being urged to continue to perform their duties without the fear of the threats from criminals, as the JCF seeks to fulfil its mandate to significantly reduce crime and protect lives.
JCF members have also been reminded to use lawful justifiable force to defend themselves and innocent law-abiding citizens from violent attack by criminal elements.
