A Portland man is now in custody for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl at Breastwork in the parish on the weekend. Police sources have revealed that the child was sexual molested by a man, believed to be in his late 40s and who is said to be involved in a relationship with the child’s mother.
According to sources, the child reportedly left home and went to a nearby river with family and friends for their usual Saturday afternoon swimming.
It is alleged that after swimming, the 10-year-old decided to head back home for a change of clothing, but did not return on time which had left family members to become worried.
The victim's older sister went to investigate and found the child at her home in a corner, naked and crying. The mother was not present at the time of the incident.
The child was taken to hospital for examination. It was allege that the stepfather was seen at the house, but had later fled the area when the police arrived.
An alarm was raised and the man was later picked up by the police which also came under verbal attack from residents, who demanded his release so that they could carry out their common jungle justice.
Up until yesterday morning dozens of residents reportedly converged at the Port Antonio Police Station demanding that the man be released into their custody, as it was not the first time that he was accused of sexually molesting the child.
The Portland police are investigating.
