An eight-year-old girl from Burke Road, Old Harbour was found yesterday afternoon hanging from a piece of the concrete column.
The child has been identified as Jasmine Keeling, a student of Davis Primary.
The police have confirmed the incident. In its preliminary statement, the police said Jasmine was spoken to by her mother about a tablet during which the child started crying.
Moments later she was found at the back of the yard by her mother hanging by a piece of cord around her neck.
Jasmine was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Jasmine, the younger of two daughters for her mother, is said to have been experiencing behavioural issues for a couple of years now.
The police revealed that Jasmine’s death is being treated as a case of suspected suicide.
However, the family of the deceased is denying that their beloved Jasmine committed suicide.
“My niece did not kill herself. People have some remorse for their families. Please do not just read and jump to conclusions without knowing your facts.
My niece died. It was a freak accident. She was playing like she always likes to do, climb and have her fun by herself, sadly we couldn’t save her. But it was an accident.
My family and I are going through something at the moment we never thought was possible. This is the most painful experience we ever encounter, so please before you speak sh** condolence is good enough; and thanks to all who read and wish us well,” wrote Latoya Chin Brown, aunt of Jasmine.
