A policeman is now recovering from gunshot wounds after he was shot in the face during a confrontation with gunmen in St James.
The police report that the cop, a constable assigned to the St James division, was patrolling a section of Barrett Town on Monday morning in the parish when an armed confrontation erupted between the lawman and a band of gunmen.
When the shooting ended, the cop was found to be suffering from gunshot wounds to his face.
He was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where splinters and bullet fragments were removed from his face.
It is not clear whether any of the gunmen was injured during the gunbattle.
