A St James man is now dead, and his 8-year-old, granddaughter shot in the regions of her face, after gunmen invaded their family home in Lethe, St James, on Wednesday night, September 25.
The dead man has been identified as 54-year-old Bertland Bennett, unemployed of Lethe district.
Reports by the Anchovy police are that about 8:30 p.m., Bennett was at home in Lethe, with his common-law wife and five children when he saw two armed men entering his yard.
He turned and ran inside the house and locked the door., but the men gave chase, kicked open the door, and shot Bennett over twelve times in the clear view of his baby mother, and his children.
While the gunmen were spraying the house with bullets, the 8-year-old child who was next door with her mother was shot in the regions of her face by a stray bullet.
The gunmen then ran from the house and escaped in the area on foot.
The police were summoned and upon their arrival, Bennett and the wounded child were rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and the infant treated and admitted in intensive care.
