A 27-year-old man is suspected to have committed suicide minutes after he and his 19-year-old girlfriend had an argument in an upper St Andrew community on Thursday.
The police said the victim has been identified as Jermaine McKenzie, an electrician of Mount Ogle district in St Andrew.
Reports from the Constant Spring police are that about 6:00 a.m., McKenzie and his girlfriend got into an altercation.
However, an inside sources told Newsbugmedia that the girlfriend, a 19-year-old woman was theatening to end their relationship.
Sources also stated that McKenzie had given food containing poisonous substance to his girlfriend then watched her struggle on the ground.
Convinced that she was dead, he went ahead and hung himself.
The police were alerted and on their arrival, McKenzie was seen hanging in his house by an electrical cord that was tied to his neck.
The woman was still alive and rushed to hospital for treatment.
The scene was processed and McKenzie's body sent to the morgue, pending a post-mortem examination.
Poison victims have a lower chance of surviving pending internal damage.
