An elderly woman who returned to the island less than a week ago after a trip overseas, was killed at her home in Bridgewater district, Discovery Bay, St Ann on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 74-year-old Peggy Aljoe.
Reports are that friends of the senior citizen became concerned when they could not make contact with her.
It was reported that at about 3:15 p.m. they went to Aljoe's home, where a search was conducted.
A trail of blood was seen in the house, which led to the discovery of her lifeless body in bushes on her property.
The police were summoned and upon their arrival, the body was seen with multiple marks which led to investigators theorizing that Aljoe was bludgeoned to death.
She was taken to hospital, where her death was confirmed.
Aljoe had returned to the island last Saturday, following her trip abroad.
No motive has so far been established for her killing amid the police probe into the development.
