Two Soldiers Shot in Gun Battle With Gangsters in St James

Two Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldiers were shot and injured by a group of gunmen in a heated gun battle in Richmond Hill, Cambridge in St James this morning.

The police reported that about 10:15 a.m., a joint military team went to the community in search of Delano Wilmot, otherwise called “Preckey” and his gang.

On reaching the community, the patrol team reportedly came under heavy gunfire from a group of men who were armed with rifles.

The two soldiers were hit during the exchange.

The wounded soldiers were rushed to hospital for treatmment. We have since learnt that their conditions are not considered to be life-threatening.

Wilmot was a member of the Ryan “Ratty” Peterkin gangs and since the fatal shooting of Ratty several months ago, he revived the gang and taken over the helm.

Wilmot is being sought in connection with several murders, shootings and armed robberies which have been committed in the Retrieve, Cambridge and Catadupa areas.

There is now a strong police-military presence in the community.

St James is under a State of Public Emergency.
