Woman Killed With Pick-Axe, Suspect Found Half Dead in Bushes

A St Catherine man who used a Pick-axe to murder his spouse before fleeing the scene and attempted to take his own life, is presently at hospital in critical condition.

The dead woman has been identified as Mara-lee Russell, 43-year-old unemployed of Bonnster Housing scheme, Old Harbor, St Catherine.

Reports by the Old Harbor Police are that about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the couple were at their home when an argument developed between them.

The argument developed into a physical confrontation during which the accused rushed outside the house and pick up a Pick-axe which he used to decapitate his spouse.

The accused then ran from the house into nearby bushes.

Residents in the area carried out a search and later discovered him lying on the ground in a motionless state next to a bottle containing substance believed to be poison.

The accused and his spouse were rushed to hospital, where the female was pronounced dead and the male admitted in critical condition.

The police believe the accused may have attempted to take his own life by comsuming the poisonous substance.
