Police sources have confirmed that a woman who fell from the Iron Bridge in Spanish Town, St Catherine, yesterday was admitted to hospital.
Rumours have been circulating that the woman jumped from the bridge in a suicide attempt but police have not confirmed this.
Some persons believe she may have fallen over the bridge after trying to retrieve a watermelon which was seen smashed near where she was found.
"It look like God was lying on the spot where she drop or else she would be dead; it is a real miracle how she is still alive," Donna Bailey, a resident, said.
It is understood that a passer-by stumbled upon the female lying face down near the Rio Cobre, which runs under the landmark.
An alarm was sounded and residents from Thompson Pen and surrounding areas converged.
Jamaica Fire Brigade personnel were called and were assisted in reaching the woman before carrying her to the nearby Spanish Town Hospital.
