Another murder has been recorded in the bus park in Spanish Town, St Catherine, as the bloodletting continues in the old capital.
The latest victim is 42-year-old bus driver, Gary Patterson, of Sandy Bay, Clarendon.
Patterson operated a bus on the Spanish Town to May Pen route, and was exiting the park with passengers about 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, when he was pounced upon and shot by a gunman.
He was pronounced dead at the nearby Spanish Town Hospital.
Patterson’s killing follows the fatal shooting of another bus driver inside the bus park on November 7, last year.
In that incident according to Loop, 55-year-old Irvin McLagan was shot and killed by gunmen as he stood outside the bus he operated on the Spanish Town to Mandeville route.
Reports were that some businesses in and around the bus park closed early today, with more business operators threatening to move out of the town.
“The police dem can’t handle this. As soon as dem turn dem back, the gunman dem kill somebody,” a disgruntled wholesale operator told the news team.
With a second bus driver being killed within three months, some operators of public passenger vehicles are weighing their options, as they say the bus park, which is at the centre of a long-running extortion racket in Spanish Town, has become too dangerous.
