Vendors are upset about the security arrangements in the May Pen market in Clarendon after a vendor was killed and a 16 year old boy taken into custody this afternoon.
The vendor was reportedly at a section of the market where she does business when she was attacked by the teenager who tried to take her phone.
She resisted and was stabbed several times.
She was rushed to the hospital and died while being treated.
She has been identified as 40-year-old Charmaine Graham, otherwise called 'Valda' of Ballards River, Chapelton, in the parish.
The police have since held the teen.
However, vendors believe the incident would not have happened if the market was properly secured.
President of the May Pen vendors’ association, Lorraine Greene Mason says vendors have been chased off the streets and into the unsecured market, making them targets for criminals.
