One of St. James Most Wanted Shot Dead Weapon Seized

An alleged gangster who was wanted for murder, was shot and killed during a confrontation with the police in St James on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Daniel Whittaker, also called Dan Dan of a Salt Spring address.

According to a Loop Article , about 3:50pm the police were on operation in the Bottom Melbourne, Glendevon area when they came under gunfire. The fire was returned.

During a subsequent search of the area Whittaker was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol was recovered from Whittaker, who was said to be a top tier member of the G-50 gang operating out of Salt Spring.

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has commenced their probe into the killing.

Meanwhile, a video is currently circulating social media with a man showing off his high powered weapon.

Since the implementation by the government to boost the reward for any information leading to an arrest or recovery of illegal guns in Jamaica, there has been much success in the tearing down of gang leaders, `Duppy Film` who was recently killed by cops at a guest house in St Thomas.

"Though operation ZOSO is being carried out in hotspot parishes for criminals, it may seem to have an all island effect as more and more gun bust emerges", another commenter wrote who praised the JCF for their good work.

On Friday, September 1, 2017, in a press conference at Jamaica House, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the nation’s first Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO): Mount Salem and its environs.

The St James communities will remain a ZOSO for the next 60 days, which means that the operation will finish at the end of October.
