LEAVE FOOTBALL ALONE! Barca Legend Xavi To Usain Bolt

Spain and Barcelona legend Xavi says global sprint legend Usain Bolt should forget about playing football. The Jamaican, a well-noted fan of the sport and English club Manchester United has long expressed his desire to play the game at the highest level and promised to take up the sport once he hung up his spikes.

The 31-year-old Bolt, who retired from track and field last summer, has made good on his promise so far, taking part in training sessions with South African club Mamelodi Sundowns and Jamaican Premier League Club Harbour View.

The double world record holder is also expected to have a serious trial with German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund later this month.

While paying homage to the Jamaican’s legendary status and achievements, as a sprinter, Xavi was far less optimistic regarding Bolt’s ability to make any serious difference on a football pitch.

Barcelona legend Xavi

“I love Usain Bolt, he's a great athlete. Physically, nobody comes close. Who runs faster than him? No one. But with all due respect to him, he will never make any difference on a football pitch,” Xavi told Sofoot.com

“What makes the difference today in football? It's talent. And what is talent? It is the possibility of controlling what you do and what others do, because you play with your head and not only with your feet.”

The Spaniard is convinced that Bolt would have the physical attributes to cope but could struggle with the mental aspect of the game.

“Because we cannot supplant mental speed and game intelligence with physical abilities. It's impossible.”
