Tracy-Ann, the aunt of 17-year-old Shedeque Calvert who was stabbed to death early yesterday morning at her home on Barry Street, Kingston, is imploring the teenager's father to turn himself in to the police.
Up to press time last night, detectives assigned to the Elletson Road Police Station were searching for the father who is believed to have killed Shedeque. Reports are that about 1:10 a.m., a dispute developed between the father and daughter when a knife was used to inflict a wound to her chest.
She was taken to hospital and died while receiving treatment. Tracy-Ann told THE STAR that she did not witness the deadly incident.
"Him run away from last night [Sunday morning] and I do not know where him gone. Mi nuh see or hear from him. Mi lose a niece and mi a wonder if mi lose a brother because I don't know what him up to or what him ago do. Mi a beg him to just come and give his end of the story. If him innocent or if him stab her and don't realise, just come talk," she said.
Shedeque reportedly stopped attending Tivoli Gardens High School, and Tracy-Ann said her father was trying to get her enrolled at another learning institution. He was expected to apply for her Taxpayer's Registration Number today.
"His name is not on her birth certificate so he had to get a declaration form signed up and he did that, so tomorrow [today] him suppose to go tax office with her," she said.
An only child, Tracy-Ann said Shedeque was well loved by her father, but admitted that sometimes he had to punish her.
"Her father is a very strict person but she wanted to have her own way. Him always have a problem when she leave the yard without permission. There were times when she would sleep out, bleach out her face and him nuh like dem summen deh.
He is a very good father and the entire community will tell yuh that. But she was just very stubborn and nuh like listen. Him always a talk to her and sometimes him would discipline her but not in a way where he would do any harm. Him would beat her like any other parent," she said. "Him work and she on him insurance and every little thing for him. Is him only child and him love har gone to bed."
Tracy-Ann said she heard that Shedeque had an altercation with her boyfriend minutes after midnight. She said the teen's father heard of it and went searching for her.
"Him wake up out a him sleep. Mi go in the bathroom and afterward mi hear a youth run come tell mi say mi niece nah breathe and she a doze weh. Suh mi do not know what take place inna di dark up there suh. Mi all think a joke suh mi put on some clothes and go out there," Tracy-Ann said.
She said when she observed her niece lying motionless and bleeding from the left side of her chest, she frantically applied CPR.
"She had a puncture wound above her nipple. Mi apply pressure to it and mi hear she take a deep breathe and her head go back and her eyes roll over. We took her to KPH and the doctors said she dead.
Suh nobody do not know when she get stab or how," she said.
