Are Jamaican Teachers Cursed? 8 Mystery Death in 8 Days

Another educator has died. She is Amosy Tomlinson, a business teacher at the Black River High School.

The circumstances surrounding her death are unknown at this hour.

8 teachers have now died in the last 8 days.

A seventh educator to died suddenly in the last eight days. The Vice Principal of the Charlemont High school in St. Catherine, Jennifer Gidden.

Ms. Gidden reportedly died while on her way to hospital this morning.

In the previous seven days, six others across the country died.

  • They’re Gregory Williams, Mathematics Lecturer at the Portmore Community College, who died on May 11;
  • Antoinette Banton-Ellis, Principal of the Vere Technical High School, who died last Thursday;
  • Ann Marie Johnson Lindo, Vice Principal of the Duncans All-Age School in Trelawny who died on Friday,
  • Carlos Gordon, a Grade 6 teacher of One Way Prep School in Kingston who passed on Saturday;
  • Donnalee Wright, of the Tarrant High School in St Andrew who passed away on Monday;
  • Another educator from Edwin Allen.

President of the Jamaica Teachers Association, JTA, Winston Smith expressed concern and noted that most of the cases were sudden deaths.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry is expressing deep sadness and extending condolences to the families and school communities of the educators who’ve died over the past week.

In a statement, Portfolio Minister, Fayval Williams says their passing has been tragic blows to their families.

The Education Minister says the fallen educators’ inspirational guidance and dedicated service were well appreciated, especially in the discipline they brought to their subject areas.

She says representatives from the Ministry’s Guidance and Counselling Unit have been meeting with the schools’ administrations, offering counselling and other support.
