The 16-year-old was killed in the vicinity of the Water Lane bus park, not far from his home in Tivoli Gardens, on Wednesday night.
A blanket of sadness hung heavily on the block where the youngster resided with his family. Vybz Kartel's Gone Too Soon track played on repeat from a speaker box, aptly capturing the sentiments of the shell-shocked community members. Those who knew Boothe said he was killed in cold blood.
His aunt said she had heard the explosions but went to bed not knowing that it was her relative being killed.
"Mi hear gunshot fire back suh and when mi hear di explosions mi run out a my house because it sound like it a come towards we. The way mi run out, mi never realise say mi never have on nuh towel. I never know seh a my nephew a dead. Mi go in back go lay down, and afterwards mi hear mi sister a call mi," she said.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) responded to and commenced investigations into the incident. In a media release issued on Thursday, INDECOM said that the police have stated that about 10:30 p.m., three officers were on mobile patrol when they were fired on by a group of four men.
The police reported that they returned the fire and the teen was later found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
The police said that two of the men who engaged them escaped and one surrendered.
A board imitation firearm, wrapped in black tape, was reported as recovered from the incident scene.
The incident has left Tivoli Gardens residents incensed.
"All of dem that was there were kids, so why dem are killing the children uh?," a resident quizzed. "Him a nuh bad man, enuh. Dem a children, suh dem a go run, but why kill him?"
One of Boothe's relatives, Tiesha, described him as a loving individual who was not involved in any wrongdoing.
"Narando is a jovial loving youth. Him is a fun little boy who like to dance, give joke and play football. Him will also go to him little party dem, too. Dah death yah shake up everybody," she said.
"Narando is not a little bwoy who mix up inna crime or nothing. Is around two times him father drop dung from him dead," she said.
