An elderly woman who spent more than $400,000 for her funeral nearly two years ago says she is yet to get the grave that she paid for.
"I want my money back," the woman, 84-year-old Lillian Polar said. She told THE STAR that although she has paid for a complete funeral package, the funeral home has been unable point her to the spot where her body will be buried.
"He gave me a plot but the owner said that plot was only for married people and who attend the church," the woman said.
She told our news team that her health is deteriorating, and with medical appointments lined up, she is unable to travel to Jamaica at this point to have her funeral arrangements sorted out.
"Him (funeral home operator) did not pay for the burial spot. What he told me is not what he is doing. He gave me a complete price of the funeral and VMBS send him the cheque. Him supposed to give me the place and the number, and him don't do any of that. Him turning me around," the woman said.
Polar states that her funeral package should be complete with a grave, a grave number and casket.
"I don't want a flat grave. I told him that was what I was looking and he told me that was no problem," she said.
Attempts to speak with the director of the funeral home have proved futile.
Last January, this newspaper reported that Polar had prepaied for her funeral. At the time she said she was not confident that her children would give her the send-off she wants.
"My son said he would burn my body. Another one said anywhere I die I bury," Polar said in the 2017 interview. "I don't want to bury in the snow." In fact, a few years ago, I paid for a spot at Meadowrest, however, I sold it a while after."
