19-Y-O Man Captured in Response of Murdering 3-Y-O Girl in St Ann

A dramatic video reportedly shows the moments leading up to 19-year-old Alexus Newland’s arrest by police in Orange Hill, St Ann on Monday.

The 2-minute-long video, obtained by the news team, purportedly took place sometime on Monday afternoon in the bushes of the Tabernacle community in St Ann.

Newland, who is seen dressed in what appears to be a brown T-shirt and beige shorts, was being forcefully dragged out of bushes by a man called ‘Jordan’ as several persons gathered around to see the alleged suspect’s face.

“God almighty! Call the police dem now!” a man was heard saying in the video.

At the middle of the video, a huge uproar was heard as Newland was carried into a room while persons shouted ‘NO!’ in objection.

After a few seconds of deliberation, several members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) arrived shortly afterwards to take the young man into custody in handcuffs.

“Say thank God fi yuh bredda! Dem nah kill him again,” a man shouted.

Some residents believed that had it not been for the fast action of the family, a different fate would have been metted out to the suspect.

A massive manhunt was underway in the garden parish as Newland was named prime suspect in the brutal killing of 3-year-old Nevalesia Campbell on Sunday, July 10.
