765 Pounds of Ganja Seized; Two Jamaican And a Haitian Held

The JDF Coast Guard seized ganja weighing approximately 765 pounds after they intercepted a boat off the shores of Westmoreland on Thursday afternoon, March 3, 2018.

Three men, including a Haitian national and two Jamaicans, were taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

Reports are that shortly after 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, JDF soldiers on board the HMJS Cornwall Vessel intercepted a blue twin engine speed boat off the coast of Westmoreland.

On seeing the Coast Guard vessel approaching, the men on board started to act suspicious and immediately started to dump several parcels overboard.

The boat was stopped and five of the packages retrieve from the water. An additional eleven packages that were still on board were searched and found to contain compressed ganja weighing approximately 765 pounds.

The men were taken into custody and subsequently handed over to the Narcotics Police.
