'Syrup' Chopped Several Times; House Torched in Port Maria

The St Mary police are investigating the gruesome killing of a man at his house in Port Maria on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Neville Tucker, otherwise called 'Syrup', of Rectory Street in Port Maria. He is said to be in his early sixties.

Initial reports are that at about 2:00 a.m., residents heard Tucker crying out for assistance.

When they went to investigate, fire was seen coming from his one-bedroom board house.

The police and the fire brigade were then alerted to the scene.

However, the house was destroyed by the blaze despite the quick response of firefighters.

During cooling down operations, Tucker's body was found.

Police sources indicated that the body had several chop wounds.

It is believed that his attackers pounced upon him and chopped him several times before setting the house ablaze with him inside.

No motive has yet been established for the killing.
