Taxi Driver Shot by Passenger in Brawl Over Cab Fares

A 21-year-old St Mary taxi operator went within shades of losing his life in the Ocho Rios area of St Ann on Friday night.

Carl Edwards of Wood Park district, Pembroke Hall, St Mary, was shot and injured by unknown assailant(s).

Police reports are that about 10:30 p.m., Edwards picked up three male passengers in the vicinity of Shades Nightclub on the Pineapple main road outside Ocho Rios.

While heading towards the tourist town, an argument developed in the cab over fares.

One of the passengers then pulled a firearm and opened gunfire, hitting Edwards in the right side of the chest.

He was assisted to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where he was admitted in a stable condition.

The Ocho Rios police are investigating the incident.
