'Mad-man' Set Fire to Church Then Confesses The Act in St Catherine

A man of unsound mind is being blamed for a fire which gutted a church on Friday, forcing its approximately 200 members to worship under a tent.

"We have a man of unsound mind who worship here sometimes, and we care for him. We received information that he went to a member and confessed to the act and said that he was sorry. We are, therefore, awaiting the police action to this new information," Pastor Wayne Smiekle told THE STAR in an interview.

The affected church is the Diamond Acres Seventh-day Adventist Church in St. Catherine. It is located at Frenchman's Heights, near Green Acres,

"The power of God is pre-eminent and we will overcome. In fact, by January we expect to be inside the new building, as this one was built of drywall," Pastor Smiekle said.

Luckily, the church was insured.

This is the third incident involving a man of unsound mind creating havoc across the island. Earlier this week a teen was killed when a man of unsound mind chopped her to death on the Washington boulevard, while in Trelawny a Taxi man was mending his fence when a man of unsound mind approach him from behind and severed his head, then fled with it into the bushes when angry mob gave chase.
