Police Shot Dead Man Who Last Week Shot 5-Y-O Girl; Residents Against Killing

A man wanted for several crimes, including a gun attack that hospitalized a five year-old girl in Tulip Lane last week, was on Monday shot dead during a police operation in West Kingston.

{xtypo_dropcap}P{/xtypo_dropcap}olice stated that the man, Steve Allen aka "Frenchie", was shot dead after he engaged a police team in a shoot out along Wellington Street.

"At approximately 12:30 pm, a team of police went to the mentioned area where they saw the man acting in a suspicious manner," Superintendent Howard Chambers, head of the division, told Loop News.

Allen reportedly opened fire at the cops and ran. He was chased onto a premises in the area and then proceeded to again open fire at the authorities, according to the police.

Cops said Allen was shot and killed during the alleged shootout.

Minutes after the shooting, angry residents took to the streets to stage a protest claiming that authorities could have taken in the man.

"Them never did have to kill him; them could a did carry him,"  said one woman.

She was part of the group that gathered close to the scene of the shooting.
