The police are still searching for an armed man who engaged them in a shoot out in York Town, Clarendon yesterday. The man is one of three who were allegedly stealing goats in the Milk River area.
The Milk River police say they received a call sometime around 3:00 p.m that men driving around the community were stealing goats and responded.
The vehicle was spotted and the men sped away. The officers called for backup and a unit from the Four Paths police station responded. The vehicle was intercepted and the men alighted and ran. Two were captured and the third with the gun shot at the police. They returned the fire and he fled in a cane field.
Its not clear if he was injured. The Toyota Corolla motor vehicle was recovered with two goats. The men who have been in custody yesterday are still being questioned after which formal charges will be laid.
According to the police since the start of the year, there have been several reports of armed praedial larcenists plaguing the parish. Communities such as Lionel Town, Palmers Cross, and Race Track, Rhymesbury and Race Course have been affected.
Superintendent in charge of operations in Clarendon Steve Brown says the police have stepped up their patrolling efforts in the affected areas and have been visiting known cattle farms frequently.
