Cabbie Commits Suicide After Stabbing A Man Over Parking Space

A Portland taxi operator, who was wanted for a murder he allegedly committed last Saturday, was found dead hanging from a tree with a rope around his neck early yesterday morning.

The Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force said that Garfield McDonald's body was found in Lewis, St Ann.

Commander for the Portland Police Division, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oneil Thompson, stated that McDonald was listed as a suspect for the murder of Kadian McKenzie.

It is reported that last Saturday, McDonald and McKenzie got into an altercation in Prospect, Port Antonio, over a parking spot.

Thompson said that McDonald used a knife to stab McKenzie in the neck.

Its understood that McDonald fled the scene immediately after, while McKenzie was taken to the Port Antonio Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to Jamaica Star, McKenzie's killing was the second murder in the usually quiet parish in two weeks. It raises the total number of murders in the parish to seven.

Last week, Deron Currie was chopped to death.

Thompson said that his team will be 'majoring in the minors' as he realises that simple disputes are the cause of the murders in the parish.

"The little disputes, the little threats, we have to make sure we are out and try to attend to all disputes and all threats," Thompson said.

He continued: "For the murder of Deron Currie, the person who has now been charged is his relative. They are first cousins. For the one that happened last weekend [McKenzie's murder], someone describes it as a 'fool fool murder' because it was a spot they were fighting over."
