Wrong 'TOOLS' Used to Build Jamaica; Massive Gun Find KFTL

One man has so far been held by the police in connection with the massive gun and ammunition find at Kingston Freeport Terminal (KFT)on Tuesday.

Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay last night confirmed that a suspect is in custody as the police continue their investigation.

“Our investigation led us to Westmoreland where the suspect was held Tuesday night,” Superintendent Lindsay told the Jamaica Observer.

A total of 19 guns and more than 4,000 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized by detectives assigned to the Narcotics Division and the Jamaica Customs Agency's Contraband Enforcement Team between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

Police reported that the firearms and ammunition were found in a freezer unit of a container. “Based on investigations the weapons and ammunition were shipped from United Stated of America,” the police said.

The firearms seized were:

  • Six rifles;
  • One Intratec submachine gun;
  • Six Glock pistols;
  • Two Taurus 9mm pistols;
  • One Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol;
  • One Ruger pistol;
  • One Heckler & Koch pistol; and
  • One Cobray pistol.

Yesterday, Police Commissioner George Quallo issued a statement commending “the hard-working men and women of the Jamaica Constabulary Force as they continue to make Jamaica safer”.
