Yvette Bailey sensed danger lurking at her gate on Jones Avenue, Spanish Town, St Catherine, Monday night and decided to do something about it.
Six men, armed with guns were making their way towards her house. Her 24 year old son, Mario Burkett, was their target.
Yvette's protective instincts reportedly kicked in and she sought to deter the men from entering her house. The men, however, fired shots hitting her. The gun men also killed Mario and his 14 year old brother, Travis Linton.
A fourth person was also injured by the hoodlums.
"The mother come out on di gunman dem and asked dem what dem want. She was then shot repeatedly," a resident said.
The police have confirmed that Mario was the target in the gruesome attack. It has being reported that about 10:00 p.m., the police were summoned to Jones Avenue after explosions were heard in an area of the community. When the police arrived the four persons were seen suffering from gunshot wounds.
The St Catherine Major Crime Investigating Division have since launched a probe in the matter.
