People are now questioning the use of the police in Half-Way Tree square, St Andrew, after an elderly woman was cut in the face during a robbery attempt upon leaving the National Commercial Bank.
A daring incident occurred around 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in front the bank, at the busy square of Half Way Tree.
“It happened so suddenly,” a witness quoted. “She was a big woman, probably 60's. When you look at her you see your mother.”
According to the female witness, the lady had just exited the bank when a man from out of nowhere started wrestling her for the bag around her neck.
“Help me. Unuh help me nuh,” the helpless woman cried to no avail while the man kept up his assault.
Police who are usually just across from NCB, conducting vehicular spot checks were not alerted to the commotion.
By this time, passersby started throwing water and box juice at the culprit in an attempt to ward him off.
He, however, lashed the woman in her face when she refused to give up the bag.
He then jumped on the back of a bike, leaving the scene as more people started coming down.
